It’s Easy Being Green; Home Decor!

As the More is More Mom®, I’m all about…….more being green! Whether you reuse, recycle, repurpose, or simply find inspiration in the most natural of hues, green is the color of the season. Take a cue from Mother Nature; green goes with everything!

My glorious green kitchen!

Green is one of my all-time favorite colors. In fact, when we renovated our kitchen a few years ago, I selected the most beautiful, warm and welcoming shade of green for my customized cabinets. I chose a slate tile backsplash as an earthy and interesting compliment to my bold granite counter tops. As with most families, we practically live in our kitchen. It’s one of my favorite rooms in our home!

Traditional Toile Bedroom

What could be more classic and traditional than toile? While toile is beautiful on upholstery or window treatments, it’s downright delightful as the foundation of a room. The simple two-tone nature allows toile to become a chameleon; it can take center stage but also lends itself to use as a strong but silent supporting player.

Graphic Dining Room With a Pop of Green

I absolutely fell in love with this Dining Room! The graphic nature of the flooring begs for a wild pop of color. This bright yellowy-green is just so happy!

Green Lacquer is to Die For!

Kelly Green is one of my favorite shades of green. This lacquer desk is to die for! It is amazing and serious and playful and fun partnered with the leopard pattern wallpaper.

Paisley Powder Room

A Powder Room is a fantastic opportunity for playing with bold patterns and hues. The paisley makes a terrific grand sweeping gesture to the clean lines of the bathroom fixtures.

A new color doesn’t have to set the stage for an entire room. Incorporating pops of color can make a room feel fresh and new as with all of these wonderful accessories;

Artichokes have a great sculptural quality. This lamp would be adorable bedside or on a console table.

Lanterns are so versatile! They are welcoming on a front porch or in a Foyer, playful in a Powder Room, a beacon of light on your Kitchen table or island and perfect on your patio.

Tossing a few new pillows on your sofa or favorite chair can make a huge difference in the mood of a room!

Artwork is another fantastic opportunity for reflecting our interests and aesthetics. An oil painting in a grand frame would be a lovely addition to a Family Room,, Living Room, Den, Foyer or Hall.

I am a collector of urns of all sizes. They are perfect as the base of a floral arrangement but also make wonderful vessels for pens and pencils, flatware and Kitchen utensils. It’s always so much more fun to use ordinary items in unusual ways.

Moss is awesome! What a fun way to bring nature into your home. Shape, color and texture; it’s a veritable trifecta!

Decorative birdcages are a beautiful accent that will find a home atop a bookcase or armoire, on a Sun Porch or console table.

Color effects the way we feel. It’s the perfect way to bring a little more life and personality to our homes!

More interesting interiors, more fun furniture, more gorgeous greens, more happy homes!

Lotions and Potions…..I loved #DialNutriSkin #Walmart #CBias

As the More is More Mom®, I’m all about…..more lotions and potions! I’ve always loved to soak in a hot bubble bath, read a book and flip through my favorite magazines; afterward, slathering on luscious lotions. However, as a busy mom, I can’t remember the last time I even meandered into the bathroom alone. Why is it that while I’m brushing my teeth or drying my hair, even as teenagers these kids are always looking for Q-tips or toothpaste? If they’re not knocking on the door, Wrigley is my constant shadow.

Motherhood absolutely requires you to streamline your daily routines. While I may not be luxuriating in the bathtub, I need rich moisturizing lotions now more than ever before! Between handling fabrics and papers for my Interior Design business, doing mountains of laundry, washing dishes and keeping house, my hands are always in need of a little TLC.

Recently, I learned about Dial™NutriSkin™   Replenishing Lotion. The whole line was being featured in a demo at Walmart, and because Wrigley is my wingman, we hopped in the car and zipped on over to check it out.

When I arrived, I found the sweetest and most delightful lady demonstrating the merits of the Dial™NutriSkin™ line. As we were chatting, I asked if I could snap a few photos, explaining that I was a blogger, to which she replied, “What’s a blogger?” We soon became fast friends as I told her about blogging, and she shared with me the differences between the Soothing, Extra Dry Skin, Dry Skin and Ultra Hydrating for Men formulas.

While they were all rich, emollient a nicely fragrant, I decided that since I have sensitive skin, the Extra Dry Skin formula with Shea Butter was definitely for me. In fact, I slathered my hands with lotion on the spot (I also like to wear new shoes out of the store. I can’t help my compulsion for instant gratification).

I also picked up a coupon for $1.00 off, bringing the total to $2.97 for a 15 ounce bottle. I couldn’t afford not to try it!

We all love great products and fantastic deals, to learn more about Dial™NutriSkin™ and to be the first to hear about special offers, why not become a fan on Facebook http://www.facebook.com/Dial?sk=wall or be super hip and follow Dial™NutriSkin™ on Twitter?

In the Red…..

As the More is More Mom®, I’m all about……more seeing RED! Color inspires an amazing visual and emotional experience. For me, I am simply a red girl. Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to celebrate this fabulous scarlet hue…..

The toile pattern is an absolute classic; always beautiful in all of its incarnations. While pastoral and oriental themes are to die for, I love the nod to nature featuring birds and butterflies (another of my favorites!).

What a YUMMY chair! This would be fabulous tucked into the corner of a Living Room, a Foyer, or as host and hostess chairs in a Dining Room…..how glam! I would even sit on it while eating Green Eggs and Ham!

Throw pillows can add an inexpensive pop of personality! While they are at home on a sofa, chair, bed or bench, I love them in a more unexpected place, like a Dining Room chair; comfort, color and interest!

I am a sucker for Chinoiserie and anything red! Wouldn’t this be fabulous tucked in a Powder Room, Hallway or over a bureau?

The chandelier is a total statement piece. This would be a bold choice in a Dining Room, Bedroom or fantastic in a Bathroom.

What is more stately and elegant than Lalique crystal? While the iconic Lalique fish is delicate in stature, it packs a big punch!

The classic urn is an interior style icon. It is at home inside and out, filled with plants, firewood, towels, magazines and anything else you can imagine

Monkeys and elephants are amongst my favorites. They are so playful! Here they are paired in a beautiful, whimsical lamp, which would be perfect bedside, on an end-table or in a Foyer.

Picture frames provide the perfect backdrop to family moments, adding a pop of personality!

A pair of love birds would be adorable nestled on a book shelf, mantel, in a centerpiece or outdoors.

Speaking of the outdoors, while a garden bench is a welcome addition to……a garden, it’s also an adorable appointment in your home as well.

More scarlet hues, more inspirations, more home décor, more beautiful spaces…..

Holiday Decorating Inspirations at #Kmart with #CBias

As the More is More Mom®, I’m all about…….more decorating for the holidays! Christmas truly is the most magical time of year. There is just something really special about family traditions, whether we are sipping hot chocolate, driving around, checking out our neighbors Christmas lights, making gingerbread houses with our dearest neighbor and friend, Mrs. Hobbs, picking out new ornaments, wrapping presents (when the kids were little, my mom and Nurse Terri would help me wrap while we sipped champagne) or enjoying a great big meal on Christmas Eve (last year we ordered out Chinese ~ just like in The Christmas Story ~ and it was fantastic!).

I love decorating for the holidays; after all, more of everything is always better! This year, I was pretty excited when I was invited to check out Kmart’s Holiday Department. Always up for a challenge, I was delighted with the opportunity to shop at Kmart with $150.00 to spend decorating for Christmas.

The timing couldn’t have been more perfect. Holiday inspired décor, vignettes and tablescapes have been on my mind, as I was the featured speaker at an event at the Arlington Design Center in Arlington Heights, IL last week. There I shared some of my professional Interior Design tips and inspirations for entertaining for the holidays.

Cruising the aisles at Kmart was so much fun; inspiration was around every corner. With so many beautiful ornaments, sparkling and glittering accents, ribbons, greens and decorations it was hard to decide where to look first. As I made my way down the aisles, I came across a gorgeous collection of Christopher Radko ornaments at a completely unheard of price; $9.99 a piece!

Sometimes, ornaments can get completely lost on a great big tree. These ornaments were special, so I knew they needed to serve as a focal point. I selected my four favorites; two Santa’s and two Snowmen and I picked up four 12” artificial pine wreaths (I love real, but they tend to shed and get kind of tired). Kmart had a HUGE selection of beautiful ribbon to coordinate with any décor, though I chose to use a simple and classic red ribbon.

I thought the ornaments would be a lovely and elegant touch strung through a strand of ribbon, nestled in a wreath of pine, hanging in my dining room and kitchen windows. The best part was that the whole look only took a few minutes.

I measured how far down I wanted the wreaths to hang (14”), cut a piece of ribbon (28”), threaded the ornament through the ribbon, nestled the ornaments and ribbon into the top of the wreath, then, with push pins, I secured the two ends of the ribbon into the window casing, and voila…..I had a tasteful and elegant focal point to my windows.

The Christopher Radko ornaments and wreaths took up a significant part of my budget (though they were totally worth it!). I still wanted to add a few festive touches, so I had to get creative.

Candy confections, like visions of sugar plums, danced in my head, so I snagged a few bags of Holiday M n M’s, peppermint marshmallows and candy canes. One of my most favorite home décor staples are my apothecary jars. They always look great filled with seasonal treasures. However, to achieve this effect, you don’t need apothecary jars, any clear cylinders will work. I simply filled the jars with candy and placed them on my island. They are cheerful and whimsical, which is something holiday decorating should be.

Decorating for Christmas doesn’t have to scream Santa and his reindeer. I thought I would create a little vignette for my kitchen table. To start, I took two basic hurricanes that I had in my personal inventory (in fact, for my #KmartHalloween #50ftParty I had them filled with candy corn!), filled them with faux snow and chose two fabulous, pine scented candles to place inside. These will absolutely last throughout the winter season to bring a little sparkle to the long cold months ahead.

With a few dollars left to spend, I decided to soften things up a bit and bring an organic quality to the table. I have a darling birdbath, but you can do this with a shallow footed bowl. I simply took a stem of artificial pine branches, removing the wire pick with my small wire cutters, and created a little nest for my birdbath. I then placed two glass ornaments inside; a caterpillar (because I adore bugs!) and an acorn. The ornaments were from the Jaclyn Smith holiday collection. It is too cute for words!

Rather than place these items at random on my table, I chose to give them more importance by corralling them on a tray. I also added one tall pillar candle holder to give my arrangement a little more height and visual interest.

I am thrilled with the elegant, festive touches that I have been able to add to my holiday décor…..all thanks to my visit to Kmart!
