Wonderful Windows……Treatments for Every Occasion!

As the More is More Mom®, I’m all about……more fabulous and stylish Interior Design! You know my passion is gracious living and creating meaningful life experiences; which all starts at home. In fact, the Art of Making a Home is the cornerstone of my message. As a designer, my mission is to help my clients develop a personal style that meets the needs of their busy lives.

Life is in the details. Sometimes, there is so much focus placed on the furniture and accessories that other important surfaces, such as the floors and the windows, are overlooked. Beautiful window treatments absolutely complete a room. It’s like wearing a gorgeous, embellished sweater or a statement necklace. The treatments needn’t be over the top (though there is nothing wrong with that! More is More……). They should be appropriate to the style of the room, the scale of the window and the budget with which you are working.

There are some really great sources for readymade window coverings. Pottery Barn offers lovely drapery panels, as does Ballard Designs. Smith and Noble’s line of blinds and shades are particularly smart looking. If, however, it’s in your budget to invest in custom window treatments, you’ll fall in love. A custom treatment allows for completely personalized design.

Custom tone on tone Roman Shades offer elegant privacy, while a silk scarf adds drama

The style of design is first dependent upon the necessary function. Is privacy critical or is the treatment strictly decorative? If the treatment needs to be fully operational you have a few choices; they will either operate up and down or from side to side. There are many fantastic options. Treatments to consider that move up and down could be roller shades, traditional blinds, (I am partial to woven and wood blinds), Roman Shades and Balloon Shades. Drapery panels are a luscious and gorgeous option for windows that are best dressed side to side. The panel can either be split, stacking equally to the left and the right, or stacked to one side for access to a patio door.

If function is not a consideration, the combinations and possibilities are endless. Valances are a beautiful way to add a little personality to any room. They are strong enough to stand alone, or are a lovely compliment to a classic blind. I’m a sucker for the texture and organic quality of a woven shade coupled with an amazing fabric with exceptional trim. Whether you select a tailored box pleat, a formal swag, a casual tab top or a stationary balloon style, there is a smart option for every room.

Regardless of the style of your window treatments, decorative trim can be a real show stopper. In fact, if I had to choose, I would be inclined to use a simple and classic fabric, and really take the treatment up a few notches with a decadent trim. There’s something for everyone; a clean line rope trim, a flat decorative tape, tassel trim with all the bells and whistles, crystal beads, brush fringe and bullion trim, just to name a few. Again, the intent with the trim, as well as with the fabric selections, is to set the tone for the room and have a little fun!

More window treatments, more beautiful fabrics, more amazing trim, more gorgeous homes, more meaningful life experiences………..
