Hot Holiday Trends in Fashion…

As the More is More Mom®, I’m all about…..more hot holiday trends! ‘Tis the season to be fashionable. The month of December always brings opportunities for dressing up; coffees, luncheons, cookie exchanges, cocktail parties, work celebrations, church services, New Years Eve. No matter how many fabulous finds there are in your closet, there’s nothing like a little updating to make a girl feel special.

Recently, I was visiting my girlfriend’s, Sue and Stephanie, at Elements & Starrs (120 N. Hale, Wheaton). They know EVERYTHING about what’s happening in the world of women’s fashion, staying one step ahead of the trends. It’s like wandering through the pages of In Style Magazine! Curious about what pieces were a must have this season, I asked Sue to give me a tour.

Layers, Layers, Layers…..
My mantra is more of everything is always better! This is the trend for me. I’m totally on board!

Layers in texture and jewelry

Layers tell a story, expressing your style and personality.

A simple piece of jewelry is lovely, but pairing it with another interesting piece makes a statement. For instance, one of my favorite personalized pieces is the initial necklace. Monograms are hot! You can wear one, or if you have children, showcase the initial of each of your children on a single chain, again telling the story of your life. While lovely in its simplicity, the single initial necklace also creates the perfect base for adding other great pieces.

Layers of clothing can create an interesting juxtaposition; fur with silk, texture with pattern, sparkles and ruffles, jewels with leather. Sue’s best advice includes keeping layers streamlined; nothing too bulky.

Speaking of Fur…..

Fabulous Faux Fur...

Sumptuous Faux Fur really makes a statement. Sue features this amazing faux fur collared vest. Paired with a simple shirt, it proudly stands alone. Paired with your leather jacket or classic blazer, it completely transforms your look. You can accomplish a similar look with a fantastic fur collar or scarf.

Feminine Details…

BOHO goes streamlined...

Details is the buzz word. We’re talking about lady like here; ruffles, lace and jewels. You’ll find them as tasteful accents or as all over style. The most important thing to remember is to strike a balance of feminine with masculine, particularly when your piece is heavy on the detail. Don’t be afraid to combine styles, just as you would your metals. If you’re going to go military, soften it with a little BOHO, to keep each from being too terribly serious.

Vintage Styling….

Lockets and monograms...

Particularly as it pertains to jewelry! There are so many amazing, heirloom quality pieces; you’ll fall in love. Lockets have a certain, classic charm. Vintage buttons pay homage to the past. Crosses and fleur de lis make strong, stylish statements. Of course stones like, hematite, are a romantic reminder of the past.

Clean lined couture

Keep in mind all of these gorgeous details need to strike a balance, lest we look like a cupcake. Simple and clean lines offer relief from all of the ruffles and jewels and lace. We’re talking about rich elements like sumptuous portrait collars, elegant winter whites and unstructured sweaters and jackets that offer a little flow.

Bling; Go Big or Go Home….

Bejeweled and bedazzled

We’re not talking about your grandmother’s sequence. Sparkle is for day and night! Jewelry, scarves, tanks, t-shirts, cardigans, dresses and jackets. Dress them up or dress them down; there’s nothing like a little glam!

With so many great trends, there’s one for each and every occasion.

More trends, more fashions, more style for the holidays!!!
